An API: Your Keys to the Cloud

Are you the one with all the ideas, but you feel limited by the options that are available?  An API may be the way to set your creativity free.  An API is a secure application programing interface (API).

It’s the power and flexibility of APIs on the internet that have enabled businesses around the world to react quickly to ever-changing needs and make their services stand out in the crowd.  Many businesses gather information (such as weather forecasts, stock prices, vendor services, etc.) from multiple sources and systems, and aggregate them to make critical decisions.  The information important to you might be weather forecasts, stock prices, new vendor services, or even status updates from you mother’s Facebook page.

At INetU we recently added an API that literally gives you the keys to manage your virtual resources, whether they are on your private cloud or the INetU Gated Community Cloud.

With the INetU API, you can:

  • add, remove and modify server entries in your virtual load balancers
  • provision and modify virtual machines on your private cloud
  • provision and modify virtual machines on the INetU Gated Community Cloud

An API allows software components or, more generally, entire systems to exchange pertinent information without the need to understand the minutia of how that information is generated or processed.  APIs come in different shapes and sizes, from files that are compiled with your source code to the web services on the internet that drive your business and inform your clients.

We’ve also added private security keys that grant you and others in your organization access to the new API,  which are only accessible in the client center, You can create as many keys as you need, and easily deactivate the ones that are no longer required.

An API opens an entire new set of possibilities for managing your virtual resources.  It gives you greater control to make changes and the flexibility to do them on a schedule that suits you.  Do you want to shut down your server at a particular time?  Do you want to change the memory or number of processors, but can’t do it while the server is running, the snow is falling, or while your competitor’s stock price is rising.  We could certainly do that for you.  But now you can too.

So go ahead, get your key and take the API out for a spin.
